(IMDb.com -- subsidiary of Amazon's Digital Video org)Dev Manager for the Consumer Platform group — reporting to IMDb's CTO and senior leadership team, my group owned the following areas: • Data API: the high-scale, highly-available RESTful API and backend NoSQL stack powering our mobile apps, web properties, and our interface to second/third-party businesses• Search indexes, features and services• Notifications: email and push (APNS and C2DM/GCM)• Identity: user login/registration features, and security program goals• Community: watchlist, ratings, reviews, discussions• Operations: drove incident response/followup process, and reliability, latency, and scalability goalsKey accomplishments:• Grew mobile app traffic from zero to (well over) 100M monthly users• Deprecated the highly-monolithic LAMP stack (~2M lines of 20-year-old perl); replacing it with modern RESTful web services, microservice backends, and AWS cloud infrastructure• Improved site reliability 100x -- from 2 nines to 4 nines -- 5 nines for critical core-data APIs (via multi-region failover)• Drove reductions in latency for users worldwide, through widespread adoption of edge-caching and increased parallelism on the backend• Launched X-Ray for Digital Video, along with platforms powering the FireTV catalog/search experience• Rebuilt IMDb's data-licensing business, with new API and bulk-data export solutions (via AWS Data Exchange)

Mar 2007 to Sep 2010: Program Manager, Windows, UI Platform team.Led the creation of a new UI framework for Windows 7, from running the initial planning and arch board meetings, through development and RTM. Our framework was used to build many of the new in-box applets, Windows Live apps, and power the new taskbar animations.Feb 2005 to Mar 2007: Tech Evangelist / Program Manager, Tablet PC, Platform team.PM'd the engineering team which integrated digital ink and stylus-input features into Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF), and later Silverlight. This job involved close collaboration across multiple divisions (Windows, Tablet PC, and Dev-Div), and representing the Tablet PC developer platform at many speaking and training engagements (PDC, TechEd, etc).

As a "v-dash" ISV, we worked predominantly with the Tablet PC team at Microsoft -- I led the design and development of over a dozen applications, components, code libraries, and sample applications. This work included a number of popular "power toys" and demo applications, which were presented on-stage by BillG and other senior executives at the various Tablet PC launch events. Notable still today are "Snippet" (which became Snipping Tool in Windows Vista .. and lives on in Windows 10 as Snip & Sketch) and Physics Illustrator.
