Shawon Rahman is a Professor of Computer Science at Univ of Hawaii at National Renewable Energy Laboratory. He possess expertise in computer science, research, teaching, algorithms, software engineering and 43 more skills. Colleagues describe him as "I am pleased to write in support of Dr. S. M. Rahman. My academic and professional acquaintance with Dr. Rahman spans over a period of 20 years starting from his undergraduate study in Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). Dr. Rahman was one of the most brilliant undergraduate students in BUET. During those four years of interactions I had the opportunity to closely observe his continuous improvement in both academic and extra-curricular activities. We have maintained professional and personal contact even when both of us moved to USA approximately twelve years ago. During this period he has demonstrated excellent academic results, brilliant teaching performance, strong research credential, resourceful industrial collaboration, and maturity in handling professional duties.
The area of computer science and software engineering has very special and unique characteristics compared to other areas of science and engineering. This area cuts through every academic discipline due to its application in every sector of human life. Therefore, teaching in this area requires an innovative approach. These approaches can only be developed by effective integration of academic, professional, and artistic perspectives. His educational records, depth in computing skills, and teaching experience illustrate his ability to establish a very strong academic perspective (also evident from the strong evaluations he received from his students and peers). Through our common interest in IT related conferences and journals, and through our involvement with IEEE Education Society I have got the chance to observe his professional ability. His conference presentation, conference and journal reviewing, industrial consulting, and online course management for diverse group of working professionals attest this ability. Web pages developed and maintained by Dr. Rahman demonstrate his artistic quality."
