The Engineering Course Advisory Group is responsible to the Course Leadership Group is responsible for providing advice and feedback on the development of courses in Engineering at QUT.The objectives of the Engineering Course Advisory Group are:To act as a resource for the Faculty on planning, implementation and evaluation of its Engineering courses and their learning outcomes;To serve as a formal mechanism to exchange ideas and concerns related to the Engineering courses at QUT, as identified by group members and on behalf of the broader Engineering industry;To serve as a communication vehicle to the wider Engineering community on the development and evolution of QUT’s Engineering courses, and their impact on the industry; and; To act as a mechanism to ensure networking and engagement between QUT Engineering and industry.

The Gateway to Industry Schools Program for Manufacturing and Engineering, encourages partnerships between industry, government, academia and community to build Queensland's manufacturing and engineering workforce for the future. The Gateway Program involves Queensland secondary schools teachers engaging collaboratively in eco-systems with their respective local manufacturing and engineering enterprises, registered training organisations and universities. The purpose of the Gateway is to raise the profile of careers in manufacturing and engineering ; develop manufacturing and engineering activities across key learning curriculum areas; and creating opportunities for work experience, apprenticeships and traineeships, and also pathways to industry via university.

Lead the process engineering team in manufacturing efficiency and process improvement projects whilst ensuring all areas of production were supported from an Engineering perspective.Responsibilities• Identify and implement strategies for continuous improvement utilising methodologies such as Lean.• Manage the company wide Process Validation program and ensure compliance with all relevant global standards• Support all areas of daily manufacturing including equipment design and development, process optimisation, trouble shooting of failed equipment and processes. • Manage the Equipment Calibration and ensure that all calibrations were performed according to schedule• Ensure all Supplier changes were assessed for risk and relevant processes followed • Developing external networks with suppliers, manufacturers and research organisations to help achieve the group’s goals, implement improvements and identify opportunities.• On-going assessment of the engineering team’s capabilities against requirements and fill identified gaps through training, recruitment, secondments, and outsourcing.• Promote the capabilities of the engineering team within COOK through timely delivery of projects to a high standard and regular sharing of outputs.

• To provide specialist engineering support working with internal stakeholders to maximise productivity and reduce costs through continuous improvement.• To liaise and support Manufacturing, R&D Engineering, QA and Facility functions across manufacturing sites.• Investigate, recommend and apply new engineering methodologies and technologies• Assist production and quality departments to ensure quality objectives are maintained and improved meeting established standards and regulatory requirements

• Key Performance Indicator Team Leader – Responsible for analysing production variables (tonnage, production delays, quality, indirect / direct labour costs, material / utility costs) and quantifying variance to plan. Provide short and long term goals to ensure cause of negative variance does not reoccur. • Key member of Severstal Wheeling Reliability team. Responsible for justifying equipment downtime (planned and unplanned) and developing continuous improvement action items to optimize production and profitability. • Managed numerous design and commision projects with a goal for reduced operating cost and higher production volumes. This included communicating and negotiating with manufacturers and sales representatives to ensure we were purchasing the best components for the particular task.• Directing and mentoring union members when changes are made to the Standard Operating Procedures which affects how they perform their job. Managing union staff to ensure optimum line performance.• Analyzing mechanical function of components to identify a source of quality or production issues. Make necessary design / procedure changes to decrease unplanned downtime.NOTE: During this time I served as interim Maintenance Manager at the Galvanising facility. This involved managing all Electrical, Mechanical and Machining staff in the mill to ensure minimal downtime and optimal productivity in the plant.

The position as Project Manager for ARMA (Association of Rotational Molders Australasia) involved managing the compilation and drafting three separate sets of Australian Standards for rotationally molded polyethylene storage tanks. There was a committee for each set of standards comprising of the top people in their respected fields throughout Australasia. The committees were comprised of Engineers, Manufacturers, Materials Experts and Installers. My role in this project was to oversea the committee members and develop these standards to a publishable level in order to further the Rotational Molding industry as a whole.
