Design Team LeadNyu Tandon Motorsports May 2018 - Mar 2019NYU Tandon Motorsports is a student-run club at New York University (NYU) which is at the forefront of developing the scope of Automotive education at NYU. The club has one competition team that takes part in the SAE Baja competition where the team designs, builds and races an off-road vehicle. The team is judged on the marketing, product development life cycle, cost, design, innovation, creativity and performance of the vehicle and of the team as a whole. As the Design Lead, I am managing approximately 60 people on 6 different subteams; Chassis and Ergonomics, Composites, Drivetrain and Brakes, Electronics, Suspension and Steering, and R&D.I took the initiative of starting 3 new subteams, namely, Composites, Electronics, and R&D. The goal was to expand our innovative and creative designs to incorporate the latest advancements in the automotive industry through composites and electronics. R&D has been established with 10+ different projects in order to work on complex projects which can be incorporated on the vehicle in the future alongside developing a sustainable team for the future with a constant influx of knowledgeable members through training in the R&D team. Also, R&D is also focused on projects which will allow NYU Tandon Motorsports to expand from SAE Baja into SAE Formula, SAE Eco Car and several different automotive competitions. The goal of R&D is also to foster an automotive scope within NYU and start undergrad research on the latest topics in the automotive realm at NYU.Also working on developing a more diverse team and improving gender ratios through outreach. Establishing a sustainable and documented design process with proper training resources.Working towards winning in our third year! -
Suspension Design LeadNyu Tandon Motorsports Jun 2017 - May 2018The engineering division of the team is divided into separate subteams. One of these subteams is Suspension. As the suspension design lead, I lead a group of 4 peers and taught them the software Lotus for suspension design and analysis. I self-taught myself the software and the material before passing on the knowledge to my team members. I had to maintain a strict deadline because of the timeline of the competition alongside manage budgeting for the sub-team.We decided to incorporate innovative designs and customization in the design of the vehicle. We shifted to a double A-arm suspension from an H-arm suspension. We worked on optimizing the vehicle dynamics of the car by optimizing Camber angle, Caster angle, Ackerman, Kingpin Angle, Half-track change, Toe Angle, Anti-Dive, Anti-Squat and several other factors. We also worked on designing custom control arms and custom spindles for the vehicle. The control arms and Spindles were designed using SolidWorks and analyzed using ANSYS using dynamic analysis techniques and energy transfer techniques to achieve the required safety factor. Alongside, topology optimization was used to optimize the amount of material being used to lower the weight of the unsprung mass of the vehicle. -
Manufacturing EngineerNyu Tandon Motorsports Dec 2016 - May 2017As one of the Manufacturing Engineer for the team, I was working in a team of 10+ people alongside the Design Engineers to manufacture the vehicle to the required precision and accuracy using tools, equipment, and machines found in a standard machine shop. I had to interpret drawings, make proof of concepts, prototype before manufacturing and develop manufacturing and assembly plans in order to optimize the process. In order to ensure the least amount of mistakes, we used scaled down prototyping and scaled down manufacturing before making an exact scale model. 3D printing was used heavily in order to print different parts and understand whether something is feasible and how to go about manufacturing it. Since it was our first year taking part in the competition, I was also tasked with documenting all mistakes, solutions, innovations, creativity, processes, and instructions for the future. -

Team CaptainVip Smart Cities Technology Jan 2018 - Jan 2019As the captain, I lead all subteams of VIP Smart Cities Technology. The subteams focus on Sensing Cities, Shared Autonomous Vehicles (SAVs), Autonomous Drones (ADs) and Smart Grids. The Sensing Cities team was able to develop a 90% cost effective sensor kit to detect air quality. We were able to deploy it for testing around the city. We also collaborated with the the city council to assist in the Earth day and gather data on closed streets to compare air quality readings with the rest of the year. The SAVs team developed a miniature version of the autonomous pod deployed in Dubai to mimic real life scenarios and learn the AI aspect of the project. The team also developed smaller prototypes of mechanical latch systems to improve connections between different pods. The AD team developed an AI drone to enter into the Coast Guard Challenge. The Autonomous drone cuts down rescue operation time in more than half. The drone is also capable of improving efficiency of the Coast Guard by covering more grid space in 70% less time. The Smart Grids team worked with BMW wireless charging concept to develop a concept model to allow vehicles to wirelessly charge through street parking.

Cities Subteam MemberVip Smart Cities Technology Jan 2017 - Dec 2017Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP) is an international consortium of multiple universities with the goal of providing students with an opportunity to get involved with hands-on multidisciplinary projects. VIP Smart Cities Technology is one of the VIP teams at NYU Tandon. It focuses on deriving solutions to propel the development and growth of urban centers to become 'Smarter' and more connected. The team has different subteams. I was a part of the Cities Subteam. We worked with the Center for Urban Science and Progress (CUSP) to develop sensor kits to record Air Quality data in different neighborhoods of the city. The goal of sensing the city is to be able to generate a correlation between quantitative data and quality of life so as to propose effective policy improvements.I handled the Computer Aided Design (CAD) with regards to Electrical Packaging and mounting. I designed a weather-resistant enclosure to house a static sensor kit. The enclosure had solar charging capabilities alongside rain and snow drainage. I used Solidworks to develop the design and used Ansys to run thermal analysis to design an adequate ventilation system for the sensor kit.The enclosure was designed using the design thinking process and it was prototyped and iterated using 3D printing.I also worked with Arduinos and Raspberry Pis and set up the initial equation and code for sensor calibration and data capture. I used online guidance and the vast DIY Library to code and calibrate our sensors. I also used MakerPlot, MATLAB and Excel to conduct Data Analysis on the Dataset acquired from initial testing in different locations.I also documented research and work as a mini-thesis in the form of an Online Engineering Notebook.

Student Research InternConnected Cities With Smart Transportation (C2Smart) May 2018 - Aug 2018New York, New York, United StatesC2SMART is the first Tier 1 University Transportation Center (UTC) in New York City, led by the New York University Tandon School fo Engineering. I was the first author on a research paper focused on Technology Transfer in Transportation. The paper was written with the help of Professor Joseph Chow and Professor Jack Bringardner. We realized that neither the Business Model Canvas nor the Triple-Layered Business Model Canvas (TLBMC) was able to adequately address the key features that transportation startups need to focus on. Therefore, we decided to use the TLBMC as an inspiration to create the Transportation Technology Transfer Canvas (T3C). It is a canvas meant to use alongside TLBMC to allow transportation startups to create a business model tailored to the transportation industry. The research paper was submitted to the Transportation Research Board (TRB) for publishing and is being reviewed currently. A response on its status is expected on 15th October. Also, I worked with a colleague to create an industry outreach series which was called C2SAMRT Tech in Career Talks. We brainstormed companies the research institute would reach out to and then from a list of 50+ companies shortlisted 12 because of the limitations of the academic calendar. Contacts were scouted and an action plan devised which was approved by the institute and is being implemented currently.I also ran workshops along with a colleague for the K-12 students working at the institute over the summer. The workshops were focused on helping them create a sensor kit which could be snapped on a bicycle to detect the exact time and location for a double parking spot.
