Student ResearcherItu May 2022 - Jun 2024Sariyer, Istanbul, TürkiyeProject Title: Enhancement of Methane Production in Anaerobic Co-digestion of Thermally Pre-treated Waste Activated Sludge and Dairy Industry WastewaterStudent Objective:🔍 Our project aims to enhance the efficiency of methane production by co-digesting thermally pre-treated waste activated sludge (WAS) with dairy industry wastewater (DW).Overview:📊 Thermal Pre-treatment: WAS samples were pre-treated at different temperatures (60°C, 90°C, and 120°C) and times (15, 30, and 60 minutes) to determine optimal conditions.🧪 Co-digestion: BMP tests were conducted to evaluate methane yields for co-digestion of pre-treated WAS with DW at different mixture ratios.🌟 Results:Pre-treatment improved the release of organic matter in WAS.Higher methane yields were observed with increased pre-treatment temperatures.Co-digestion showed synergistic effects, further enhancing methane production.Preliminary Insights:🌱 Early results are promising, showing significant improvements in methane production efficiency and effluent quality.Conclusion:🔬 Thermal pre-treatment and co-digestion with DW are effective strategies for boosting methane production, offering a sustainable approach for energy recovery in wastewater treatment plants.I look forward to sharing more detailed results and insights as the research progresses! 🌿 -
