I'm Shayan Vassef, a first-year Ph.D. student at the University of Illinois at Chicago. My main interests are Natural Language Processing, Machine learning, Optimization, and Signal Processing. Specifically, I'm interested in (Multi-Modal & Multi-Task & Continual, and active) learning and how to robust, interpret, and improve the model's performance using these learning techniques in two primary applications:1. Healthcare: I'm overly fond of applying Clinical NLP and text-mining approaches to medical data to assist patients and improve their well-being.2. Social media: The topics that intrigue me the most regarding social media analysis include but are not limited to people's similarities, Wikipedia category ranking, detecting misinformation on social media, and so forth. As for my extra-academic activities, I love to create helpful tutorials based on my interests to share the experiences I accumulated with others.
