Rehab Engineering Intern
CurrentDevelop and evaluate 3D printing materials and qualify them for use in rehabilitation use.Compile 3D printing resources to educate hospital staff about best practices, leading to a subject-matter expert.Observe therapy sessions in order to identify opportunities for improvement through application of engineering design principles.Utilize 3D scanners and image processing software to create printable models for custom orthoses.Researching therapeutic modalities and exploring additive manufacturing to assist with therapeutic outcomes.Document a formal procedure to enable therapeutic staff to use 3D printing as an everyday therapy tool. This includes settings, procedures and expenses for each activity.Demonstrate the efficacy of additive manufacturing by successfully prototyping one or more devices to be used in a clinical setting.Assemble and demonstrate proposed solutions to clinical staff, confirm suitability and effectiveness and iterate on design in order to optimize and fine tune the solution.Assist in standard rehabilitation engineering job duties including modifications to assistive equipment and design of custom assistive equipment. Manufacture and/or construct prototype solutions in response to the patient review or assessment. Provide fitting and initial training on custom assistive equipment and commercial assistive equipment, as necessary.Physically modify, assemble and install equipment ensuring that manufacturer's instructions, documentation, testing, inspection and quality are carried out where needed.
