I have been a professional software developer since 1993. During that time I have filled a variety of roles on projects and have learned a lot from my successes and failures. I have found that I want to be involved in all the phases of software development: requirements gathering, application design, development planning, coding, testing, documentation, and release/maintenance. I find that I am most effective working with a team of people with a variety of skill sets. I am a self-starter and can take direction and run with it, but I have also enjoyed working on teams with more active oversight. I enjoy the challenge of identifying the bottlenecks and critical paths of a project and ensuring that the right people at the right time are working on it. I pride myself on effective communication and documentation throughout the development process with all the stakeholders.I specialize in leading technical teams through all the phases of software development. I am well versed in a variety of development methods ranging from waterfall to more progressive agile methods. I am an expert in optimizing application code and database layers for performance and maintainability. I have extensive experience in creating systems ranging from desktop applications, to web based systems, to systems with distributed components and messaging. I am familiar with proper use of design patterns and can appreciate elegant code.
