This position was part of the DND on site in Vernon, BC at both the Vernon Military Camp, and Vernon Training Area. Conducted independent daily fieldwork on the training area, which included but not limited to: - deploying and collecting wildlife cameras - deploying and collecting wildlife acoustic boxes - collecting species at risk (SAR) occurrence data - conducting transect surveys for invasive plant and weed species Along with the independent field work in Vernon, I also participated in a week long team fieldwork trip to a remote location (Williams Lake). A small part of this position involved office work, which included literature reviews/research, SARA permit applications, and writing and reviewing fieldwork reports. I expanded my experience with various Microsoft applications, along with gaining some introductory experience with GIS data collection.

USRA 2022 awardee with the Adamowicz lab. Gained experience in introductory coding, and data organization. As part of this position I strengthened my ability to work independently, along with receiving constructive criticism and feedback. I worked on multiple different projects throughout my summer position, one of which included work with SSU gene completeness between metagenomics and total RNA-sequencing. Another project included a thorough literature search and review. I also gained laboratory experience, with microscopic imaging and sorting of freshwater benthic invertebrate specimens.

Worked alongside other post-secondary summer students as part of the parks department student crew. Daily tasks included line trimming, weeding, repairs, and park maintenance. Strengthened my ability to work on a team, along with working with permanent, full-time parks staff. This specific summer we worked through a 40 degree heat-wave, so I learned how to adapt myself and work habits to harsh weather conditions.
