I interface and coordinate with the School Construction Authority, ensuring that the (currently) $17 Billion capital program is effectively implemented. I created the Sustainability Initiative, a driving force for change in New York City that educates our students in the importance of environmental stewardship (aligned with the city's goals under PlaNYC). I founded, in partnership with Columbia University, the High School for Energy and Technology - a Career and Technical Education school dedicated to developing the next generation of Energy Auditors, Commissioning Professionals and HVAC Engineers. I also led the reform of the custodial system in NYC, which completely re-conceived how cleaning and maintenance services are provided by our 8,500 building-based employees.
