About Sheamus Burns

Software development, to me, is all about creating impactful products. My journey into engineering began with ideas that needed building, so I learned to build them myself and have since gained nearly a decade of experience in Object-Oriented languages such as Ruby, Python, JavaScript, and TypeScript. I have a knack for identifying what makes features effective, helping teams eliminate the unnecessary to focus on core user experience and business value.I've led development on significant projects like the Maryland State One-Stop web app and Maryland State's Financial Disclosures web app, seeing them through from inception to launch. Collaborating on development teams is one of my favorite pursuits. I thrive in environments where every team member is a full collaborator, leveraging collective expertise to envision and build top-notch products.Programming challenges the mind to think like a computer, but my true strength lies in using development as a tool to bring innovative products to life. I view the feature development lifecycle as a studio process rather than a factory assembly line—prioritizing vision and creativity over sheer speed and avoiding errors. My Core Principles:*Ship It*: Be agile yet maintain quality. Features drive value only when they reach customers. Scope new features effectively to delight existing users and attract new ones daily.*Code that Shines*: Ensure code is performant, secure, modular, and easy for future developers to understand and maintain. This requires robust processes and open discussions.*Business Adept*: A team that understands and articulates the business goals behind a feature can better translate those aims into rules and code that create "magic."Beyond coding and building new products, I find enjoyment and inspiration in painting, nature, spirituality, history, and philosophy.Learn more about me and find my resume at https://sheamus.info
