- Served as principal investigator on a federally-funded grant to study gene expression changes during the unique metabolic state of hibernation in dwarf lemurs - Mastered RNA extraction, whole transcriptome amplification, sample library preparation, and RNA sequencing- Collaborated with bioinformaticians to complete RNAseq read mapping and de novo transcriptome assembly- Designed a humane way to collect tissue samples from a critically endangered primate while ensuring animal welfare was priority- Conducted a total of 6 months of field work in Madagascar without electricity or running water, and during extreme weather conditions- Implemented research budget estimates and managed fund distribution of over $45,000 from 16 independent research grants to support multiple, on-going research projects- Authored seven scientific publications, including a review on the field of hibernation physiology in primates
