Following a successful academic career in String Theory, including a stint at CERN and the CEA, I took a sabbatical to join Lore Ai (www.lore.ai). Lore Ai help's organizations automate and optimize document processes, such as contract review or investment research, using machine learning. Lore's product, Salient, rapidly extracts critical information from contracts, invoices, prospectuses, CVs and other documents, helping automate expensive business processes and improve operational efficiency while also providing greater agility and insight. In my academic career, I engaged in highly visible and influential research in both String Theory and Critical Phenomena at the most pre-eminent European research institutes (CERN, CEA and Amsterdam). In recent years my interests have veered towards machine learning and artificial intelligence.

At LPTHE I published a paper on a new method to study these systems that was significantly faster and more accurate than the previous state-of-the-art methods (which had been developed by me and my collaborators while I was at CERN). Our new method combined linear optimization and gradient descent and, by taking advantage of the geometry of the problem, was able to find solutions approximately 100 times faster than older methods (using linear optimization alone).

Postdoctoral Research FellowCern Oct 2013 - May 2015Meyrin, Genève, ChRecipient of prestigious EU-COFUND Fellowship (awarded to highest-ranked postdoctoral applicant each year). Developed novel numerical methods to study critical phenomena (the conformal bootstrap). Our customized Linear Optimization Algorithm was vastly more efficient than existing commercial solutions (IBM CPLEX). Published a ground-breaking paper in the very established field of critical phenomena: achieved a 200-300% improved accuracy over the state-of-the-art while being 100 times more computationally efficient.Built a toolkit for numerical optimization for the conformal bootstrap:- Included an in-house parallelization framework to run optimization jobs over hundreds of nodes in the CERN cluster (existing solutions like Joblib, etc.. had problematic shortcomings).- Toolkit was developed in Python with high-performance modules developed in Cython/C.- Wrote an arbitrary-precision linear algebra library (with numpy semantics) in Python/Cython.- Developed and implemented a semi-continuous arbitrary precision linear optimization algorithm that performed significantly better than IBM's CPLEX (for our class of problems). -

Lead DeveloperSaraf Software Solutions Jan 2000 - Jun 2003Lead developer on RegyStar, domain registration system used by several top-level domain registires (.US, .BIZ, etc..).- Led a team of 4-6 developers in designing and developing RegyStar, a domain registration system catering to both registrars and registries.- Participated in IETF working group on Provisioning Registry Protocol.- Deployed, integrated and customized RegyStar at the company that was to become the registry for the .BIZ, .CN and .US domains (Neustar). This multi-month engagement was under a very tight deadline (the registry opening date) and required RegyStar to handle the very high volumes and 100% uptime requirements of a newly opened registry. I led the onsite integration and customization of the software, collaborating closely with Neustar's internal developers and IT staff.
