My role as the Africa Director is to conceptualize and execute the work of Out Right's Africa Programme as well as to establish the vision and direction of the Africa Programme with oversight by Out Right's Director of Programmes in New York.Deliverables include the following: - Supervise, conceptualize and execute the Africa programme’s work to strengthen the ability of activists and communities to document LGBT human rights violations and the resilience of LGBT people, within broader Out Right programmatic work. - Develop curricula for training programmes. - Provide support to activists and organisations. - Relate human rights documentation skills to advocacy. 
 - Lead advocacy related to Out Right's Africa programme and related issues at the national, regional and international levels, including supporting LGBT organizations to write and submit shadow reports, lobby during sessions, and implement treaty body work domestically. - Engage relevant national, regional and international stakeholders, including special mechanisms and UN agencies as well as state missions, to support LGBT rights in Africa. - Collaborate with like-minded NGOs. - Compose strategic messaging about the mission of Out Right’s Africa Programme, activities, and results. - Participate in and direct the development of media related to the Africa Programme including, writing, editing, and production of publications, including press releases, and op-ed pieces. - Develop Out Right’s public statements on LGBTI rights in Africa and represent the organisation to the media, in public forums, and in online communications. - Initiate, maintain relationships with, and respond to requests from key media outlets Show less

As part of my job: - I wrote the programme strategy and programme implementation plan which included the theory of change. - I wrote the Monitoring and Evaluation strategy and plan for the programme and worked with the programme team to populate the log frame and to provide training to partners on M&E and log frames. - I provided strategic direction and leadership to the programme - I led in the knowledge building component of the programme and work done so far includes analysis of the Zimbabwean electoral cycle, South Africa and China’s role in Zimbabwe and the region, the role of SADC and the AU in governance issues in Zimbabwe and neighbouring states etc. Data from the knowledge programme was used to enhance the programme approach as well as for advocacy purposes. - I facilitated the continuous building of expertise and skills within the programme to respond to governance and media issues including security sector reform and institution-building. - I ensured strict compliance to ISO standards. - I managed a total budget of GBP10 million over 40 months. - I ensured strict financial controls and management of resources. - Recruited and performance managed a team of 15 staff members including programme, M&E, media, finance and administration. - Managed the grant-making procedure - Developed appropriate human resource policies and employment procedures - Led in the development and implementation of a security management plan for both partners and staff - Ensured that all donor reporting and reviewing obligations weremet in a timely and effective manner Show less

What I achieved: - Consultancy to run a series of workshops for IRIN Information Officers from all over the world on basic journalism skills, advocacy journalism, understanding how the media works and developing media strategies

What I achieved: - Consultancy to organize and deliver on a road show around political and economic implications of the deteriorating situation in Zimbabwe and the impact on South Africa and the region. Wrote and delivered a paper on the topic as well as organized other speakers both from South Africa and Zimbabwe. - Developed and delivery of a media strategy for the road shows.
