As an Assistant Professor at the School of Liberal Arts & Sciences (SLAS), Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology in Patiala, India, Sheikh Adil Edrisi brings a wealth of experience in the field of environmental science and sustainable development. With over ten years of research experience in the field, Sheikh Adil has demonstrated expertise in ecological modeling, biotechnology, sustainability analysis, and policy-making.Sheikh Adil’s research interests focus on biomass and bioenergy production, ecological restoration, and indicator identification and development. Specifically, he explores the role of biotechnology in land restoration, the use of remote sensing and geographic information systems to assess land use and productivity, and the development of eco-friendly technologies to meet local demands. He also conducts research on sustainability and nexus analysis for optimized biomass and biofuel productions and investigates agroforestry and urban forestry as potential models for monetary benefits.In addition to his research, Sheikh Adil has a strong track record of teaching and research guidance. He has over two years of teaching experience in ecological science, sustainability, and allied fields and has guided students of M.Tech. training and ongoing Ph.D. research.Sheikh Adil’s recent research projects include a Start-up Research Grant from DST-SERB, which focuses on urban forestry and sustainable development, and a Thapar Seed-Funding project, which identifies the potential of agroforestry systems under restoration initiatives. He has also served as a Guest Scientist at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research in Germany and a Visiting Research Fellow at CIFOR in Bogor, Indonesia, and Beijing Normal University in China.Sheikh Adil’s academic qualifications include a Ph.D. in Botany from the Institute of Environment & Sustainable Development (IESD) at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Varanasi, India. His Ph.D. thesis was on the sustainability analysis of biomass/biofuel production from marginal and degraded lands. He also holds an MPhil in Environmental Science & Sustainable Development, a UGC-SRF-JRF in Environmental Science, all from BHU, as well as an MSc in Botany from BHU.Adil is a passionate researcher and educator committed to advancing the field of environmental science and sustainable development.
