Missionary In Training CourseNorthern Canada Evangelical Missions May 2007 - Sep 2007Timber Bay, SkAfter a week of seminars and courses on native culture, spirituality, and wilderness surival, I was paired with another young woman to live just outside the Montreal Lake Cree Nation. I was thankful for this because it made long-term connections possible, and followup from previous connections attainable. We were under the supervision of long term missionaries, who gave us tasks and people to connect with. We worked as TA's in the school until the school term was done, visited with the people in the community, taught music lessons at the school, did a kids' program based on the gospel in the evening. Most importantly, we did devotions together before anything ever happened for hte day. I saw the power of prayer at work in a powerful way, and saw how small acts done in great love really makes a huge difference. After the course was complete (it was a 13 week course) I was asked to stay on at the camp as a camp counselor, to prolong my work in the community and with the kids I'd been working with. So I did. it was one of the most rewarding additional 5-6 weeks of my life. I was challenged in ways that were beyond my abilities. It was this summer working as a missionary and at a cross-cultural camp that really spurred me to finish my Intercultural Studies degree at Bethany College.
