Programs and Initiatives created at Covenant House: • Man Up: Young men’s group that was a safe space to talk and process male issues and challenges.• Live at the Cov: Gender inclusive talent showcase which was used as a tool for expression, community and self-empowerment.• Mandate: Speakers were brought in to speak to the youth about their experiences and challenges of manhood (personal and professional). • Belt Up NY: Initiative to provide belts to the youth to prevent pant sagging and also to provide belts for job interviews• Art therapy sessions that allowed children to creatively release stress and to brighten up the environment inside of Covenant house with their own paintings.The above programs were highly successful, fostered a sense of community, allowed children to feel comfortable with 1 to 1 mentorship, small group mentorship, and professional networking. The initiatives also created a revolving door – the youth chose to return weekly to take part in the offered programs.
