My name is Shelby Castle, originally from Columbus, Ohio where I was born and raised. In Spring of 2021, I graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor in World Language Education with a specialization in French. I am certified to teach K-12 French and am passionate about teaching the French language and culture. I truly could not envision a different career path. 2021 - 2022 I have landed my first job at The Wellington School in Columbus, Ohio. Here, I have had the independence and trust to build my curriculum up from scratch and to my liking, teaching four year-long courses and have prioritized not sacrificing culture for language and visa versa. I have also served as a Freshman advisor, further being able to strengthen relationships with students and parents.(FA 2019-SP 2020) I studied abroad at L'Université Paul-Valérie Montpellier III in Montpellier, France. Here, I lived independently and took integrated courses with native French students.. I have taken both the OPI and WPT to have received Advanced Lows passing proficiency scores proving my fluency in the language.Through BGSU, I have been a teaching assistant (FA 2017), taught a third grade class French once a week (FA 2018-SP 2019), and I have been an after-school tutor to aid a student in the process of going on an IEP (SP 2018). Outside of BGSU, I have been employed as a Day Camp Counselor through the City of Dublin (2020), a Sales Associate at Old Navy (2019), and a Crew Trainer at Wendy's (2015-2020) where I have gained much experience in customer service, sales, working with students with and without exceptionalities, training other members, and communication. I have also tutored High School French as well as 1st grade reading and math. From FA 2017-SP 2019 I was apart of the Adolescent to Young Adult Association (AYAA) where I served as the head of Fellowship to grow our networking within the organization for one of those years. From SP 2018-Present I have been apart of the World Language Educators Organization (WLEO) serving as the Social Media Chair. Finally, I am a BGSU Study Abroad Ambassador recruiting and encouraging those wanting to go abroad.
