Shelby Singleton is a third-year law student at the University of Virginia School of Law, where she is on the Senior Editorial Board of the Virginia Journal of Social Policy & the Law, the Executive Board of the Law Christian Fellowship, and is an active member of the Black Law Students Association. Shelby was previously a member of the UVA Law Local and State Government Policy Clinic, where she helped members of the Virginia General Assembly research, draft, and advocate for legislation to abolish juvenile fines and fees in criminal and traffic courts and support rural Virginians. Shelby has volunteered with the Virginia Law Innocence Project Pro Bono Program since her first semester of law school. She previously worked on a policy to extend biological evidence retention records in criminal convictions and currently works on a case team advocating for her client’s factual innocence. Before attending UVA Law, Shelby attended George Washington University as a Posse Foundation Scholar, earning her Bachelor of Arts in Political Communication and graduating magna cum laude. She is proud to reign from (in her words) the best city in the nation: Atlanta, Georgia. In her free time, Shelby loves trying new restaurants, hanging out with friends, and keeping up on current events.
