I grossed and embedded biopsies from human patients, created microscope slides using microtomy methods, and stained prepared slides with routine and requested special stains. I was also involved in the QC process that every slide went through to insure they were of the highest quality. I also prepared needed solutions for staining slides and monitored the inventory of chemicals and lab supplies to insure they were ordered before supplies ran out. -
Undergraduate Research AssistantSkinner Laboratory- Wsu Aug 2010 - May 2013I assisted in bioinformatics related to analyzing differentially methylated regions of rat and mouse DNA from exposure to environmental toxins transmitted transgenerationally through epigenetics. Specific bioinformatics techniques I have used are DNA motif creation and analysis using the MEME suite tools such as: MCAST, FIMO, GLAM2, and TOMTOM, as well as a separate tool called STAMP to compare our created motifs to a known database of motifs.I also prepared rat sperm DNA samples to analyze differentially methylated DNA in the F3 generation after F0 exposure to environmental toxins. I performed DNA extractions from sperm and then methylated DNA immunoprecipitations, as well as DNA purifications and whole genome amplifications. I also used gel electrophoresis, PCR, and quantitative-PCR techniques.
