My primary role at the Pacific Southwest Research Station is developing a project to monitor runoff and erosion from forest roads in the Caspar Creek Experimental Watersheds and the surrounding Jackson Demonstration State Forest. With help from CAL FIRE and the Fort Bragg Forest Service crew, I built 12 fences to capture sediment eroding from roads during storms. The fences also have v-notch weirs and water level sensors to quantify storm runoff.

I graduated in 2021 from the Water Resources Science Master's Program at the University of Minnesota.WIth an emphasis on Forest Hydrology/Ecohydrology, my master's thesis investigated the effects of logging intensity on understory plant evapotranspiration rates in a northern California coast redwood forest. Working closely with USDA Forest Service and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, I completed three months of field work conducting forest inventory surveys of both understory and overstory vegetation, taking samples of water and soil, measuring plant evapotranspiration rates using a portable evapotranspiration chamber, and installing and monitoring equipment used for data collection. This position also granted me ample experience with sample preparation, data organization, data analysis, and statistics.

As a watercraft inspection intern, my primary duty was to inspect boats and water related equipment for aquatic invasive species. During my internship, I obtained experience communicating with and educating the public about zebra mussels, Eurasian watermilfoil, spiny water fleas, and other exotic species.I also worked closely with conservation officers, aquatic invasive species specialists, and other watercraft inspectors to enforce exotic species transportation laws.
