I worked with Ian Smith, the Seneca Lake Watershed Steward, to create a standard operating procedure to research potential point of source pollution which had not been done in the New York Finger Lakes region before. My position was independent from my colleagues. I began with an in depth research of similar studies that were conducted on a large scale. I then began programing and implementing sensors at my selected sites. In conjunction with the sensors Ian Smith and I used a Hach Flow Meter in the field to manually compare discharge rates with the sensors. I collected water samples from each site over the course of three months and tested the TSS manually and then used the Lachat Quikchem Flow Injection Analysis System for the NOx, SRP, TP, and NH4 measurement. I calibrated, spiked and correlated the data using the Lachat software. I compiled all the Mayfly and Hoboware data from the field sensors in order to compare the nutrient concentrations with the discharge rates. I used GIS to construct a watershed map of the selected sites to link the characteristics of the land use to the nutrients output. I compiled the data onto a poster for a presentation.

My primary role is to help first year students transition to college life. I also assist with classroom activities, aid students with class registration, and hold office hours outside of class to help with homework assignments.

Assisted Professor Halfman with water sampling in the Finger Lakes. Collected surface and deep water samples from the lakes. Preformed both on site and in lab titrations. Operated a drone to monitor visual patterns of harmful algae blooms. Primarily focusing on Owasco Lake exploring new mitigation technologies to combat large blooms. Synthesized results into a poster for representational purposes.
