I am currently an Outpatient Data Quality Specialist for Saint Luke's Health System in Kansas City, MO. In this position I audit outpatient charts for correct ICD-10-CM and CPT coding accuracy. I also provide education for all outpatient coders by writing newsletter articles, presenting information in person and developing policies and procedures.Prior to Saint Luke's, I was a Health Information Management Instructor at the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth Kansas. I served in this position for 3 years to help build their HIM Program from the ground up and this project has been the crowning achievement of my career to date. Before my career as an instructor, I was an HIM Director at a small Critical Access Hospital in Northeast Kansas. I held this position for approximately 7 of my 14 years at the hospital. During my years there, I performed everything from inpatient and outpatient coding and compilation of hospital statistics to quality assurance reviews, utilization coordination both in-house and in conjunction with insurance agencies, chargemaster reviews, and more. I served as HIPAA Officer for 3 years and held many committee positions. I have also performed independent coding consultant work prn. for neighboring healthcare facilities.I am an active member of KHIMA and currently serve as Secretary/Treasurer on the KHIMA Board of Directors. I am also a mentor for a student representative to the Board. I earned my AHIMA Approved Train the Trainer Certificate in the Summer of 2013. I have also recently completed my MBA with emphasis in Healthcare Administration from the University of Saint Mary. In my spare time I love to golf and on the golf tournaments committee. I like to garden and camp and fish with my family. I also enjoy reading when I get some down-time.
