At Capstone Education Advisers, we consult with students and their families on all aspects of the college application process, including changes in the admissions landscape, academic and extracurricular planning, evaluation of the transcript and test scores, planning for letters of recommendation, building a balanced preliminary college list, working with students to narrow the college list, planning for and reviewing essays and resumes, developing application strategies, reviewing applications before submission, discussing college options, and helping students prepare for college. Our process is designed to reduce stress for the student and family, and provide students with essential practical skills for college and beyond. Shelley specializes in working with students planning to pursue careers in STEM, but also works with students interested in non-STEM fields.

Engaged for 4 months annually as a professional seasonal reader in the Caltech Office of Undergraduate Admissions, supporting Admissions Officers in their file reading and leading on file reading.

Consultant for medical device and healthcare firms on all steps of the research process; preparation, editing, and submission of grant proposals to NIH and other funding organizations; preparation of research protocols; preparation of IRB applications; consultant on regulatory issues related to human subjects research; preparation and submission of scientific manuscripts; medical device research.

Worked in the AltaMed Institute for Health Equity (AIHE), helping the Institute build a new health services research program focused on reducing or eliminating health disparities in the communities served by AltaMed. Identified research funding opportunities, developed collaborations with external researchers, prepared research grant proposals, wrote manuscripts for publication, consulted on research process and data issues, and promoted the work of the AIHE within the AltaMed organization.

Trained in holistic review process; seasonal (3 month) position from November through January each year reading and scoring freshman applications for the UC Berkeley Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

Conducted investigator-initiated epidemiological research in cancer epidemiology, including breast, prostate, colorectal, and pancreatic cancer. Awarded nearly $2 million in research funding from NIH and other sources over career. Strong record of peer-reviewed publications and presentations. Consulted on quality of care studies for the health plan, and served as Scientific Director of Regional Cancer Registry.

Postdoctoral Fellowship in Preventive Medicine to conduct research in breast cancer epidemiology, resulting in several peer-reviewed publications. Obtained grant funding for fellowship from the Breast Cancer Research Program.
