I didn't choose workers' compensation...workers' compensation chose me. That's my story in less than 10 words. The rest of the story begins and ends with Hobby Lobby. I was first exposed to the claims world as a Claims Examiner for Hobby Lobby while I was working through nursing school. Although I was promoted to a supervisory position, I really wanted to use my nursing degree once I graduated so I left to work in the Trauma ICU at OU Medical Center. I quickly realized the hours of bedside nursing were not for me and I missed claims (just a little)... I was able to combine my claims experience with nursing as a Nurse Case Manager for CorVel which was a great opportunity! It was the best of both worlds for me, and CorVel was a great company to work for. This position allowed me insight into various managed care services and how claims administration works from another perspective. I also learned about different business aspects like budgets and department goals while working in a supervisory position with a couple of great mentors. However, my first love was Hobby Lobby, and I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to return. I am proud to be the Occupational Injury Claim Manager leading a team of supervisors, examiners and support staff. Together, we focus on serving employees through the claims process and supporting the retail environment by modeling the same principles the Company is known for. My job is to make sure this happens in the most timely, cost-effective manner and everyone excels in his or her role from the top down. It's a big job and I love it.
