CurrentSPCA Florida exists to eliminate animal suffering and to engage the entire community in the welfare and wellbeing of animals. We accomplish this by advancing model programs to promote the adoption of healthy animals, prevent dog and cat overpopulation, provide veterinary medical services for animals in the community and keep animals in homes through relinquishment intervention strategies. SPCA Florida is a limited admissions shelter and maintains a 97% live release rate. Our adoption center is open 7 days a week to serve the public and our veterinary clinic is open 5 days a week to care for our communities' animals and those who love them. SPCA Florida's goal is to lead Polk County to a no-kill status (90+% live release rate) by 2025. Our three initiatives focus on animals most at risk in Polk County. 1. Cats and Kittens2. Bully Breeds 3. Heartworm Positive DogsCommunity Programs include a monthly Food Assistance Program for 14,000 personal pets, Ani-Meals bagged food (132,000 lbs) and supplies for seniors and shut-ins for Meals on Wheels, Viste, and Network of Hope. Compassion Funds for medical care, Mom's Last Litter free s/n, and SNAP, spay and neuter assistance program, Critter Camp, and Pitties & Kitties S/N are a few of the many programs we offer to our community. In 2021, nonprofit, FL SARC (State Animal Resource Coalition) a 10-year-old FEMA approved volunteer disaster training organization merged into SPCA Florida. FL SARC works with FL ESF17 for disaster response as well as with ASPCA and HSUS for national disaster response. The overall save rate in Polk County was in the 40 percentiles in 2018. Today we are nearing 80%.Affiliations2023 Vice President FAAWO (Florida Association of Animal Welfare Organizations)FL SARC Volunteer
