Shelma Jun is the founder of Flash Foxy and the creator of the Women's Climbing Festival. Flash Foxy is a multi-media platform that was created in 2014 to celebrate women climbing with women and to be a place where women can come to feel inspired by and connected to each other. The Women’s Climbing Festival, which first started in 2016 in Bishop, CA has grown to bring 300 women together over a weekend of climbing, panels, clinics and more. In just it’s second year, Shelma will be adding an additional festival location in Chattanooga, TN. Her writing has appeared in Climbing Magazine, Outside Online and other publication and she has spoken on panels and at dinners for the American Alpine Club and the Access Fund. In 2017, she was named one of 40 women who’ve made the biggest impact in the outdoor world by Outside Magazine. Prior to her work with Flash Foxy, Shelma worked for five years as the Community Design Manager at NYC nonprofit, Hester Street Collaborative and as a Community Planner at affordable housing nonprofit, Asian Americans for Equality. During her tenure, she created participatory tools to engage people in shaping their public spaces, developed community-based plans, participated in neighborhood coalitions and facilitiated the creation of public art installations. She also helped co-found Biking Public Project, an organization that aims to expand local cycling advocacy discussions by reaching out to underrepresented bicyclists around New York City including women, people of color, and delivery cyclists. Shelma has a BA in Business Economics and a MA in Urban Planning from UCLA. She is also a licensed CPA in the state of CA and worked at the public accounting firm, Deloitte & Touche, LLC prior to getting her masters degree. A California native currently based in Brooklyn, NY, Shelma can often be found plugging widgets into horizontal cracks at the Gunks or getting scared on granite highballs in Bishop.

WCF in Bishop, CA in 2016-2017- Over 400 women have attended- More than $3,000 has been raised for the Access Fund, earmarked specifically to address climber education in Bishop, CA. - Partnered with 15+ Bishop small businesses, organizations and groups to provide lodging, guide services, food and more for participants and spent 70% of our event budget in town. - Festival events included female-led guided clinics, workshops, slide show presentations, women in climbing panel,an all-female adventure film festival screening and a stewardship day in partnership with local conversation non-profit, Friends of Inyo. -

Community Design ManagerHester Street Collaborative Apr 2014 - Nov 2015New York, New York, Us* Worked in the role of Project Manager over a technical assistance team comprised of five separate non-profit technical assistance providers during a community engagment process around land use and zoning in the Bronx. Worked closely with Bronx community based organizations, tenant leaders, faith-based leaders and union workers throughout the process. * Developed a community-based research report to aide the creation of a community response plan for LES Ready, the Lower East Side Long Term Recovery Group. This included a resident survey, focus groups and community organization interviews to assess experiences as well as capacity in the event of another emergency disaster. * Worked with a coalition of five community based organizations and allies to develop an interim public park through interactive art design and education installations and programs at Pier 42 on the lower East Side waterfront. This included working closely with selected artist, an Advisory Committee comprised of tenant leaders, CB members, local elected officials, city agency representatives and key community organization partners and the broader neighborhood community. * Worked with Community Based partners to identify potential new projects, draft scopes of work and con-fundraise to Private Foundations and Government Sources for project funding. * Drafted funding proposals, budgets, work scopes and reports for potential funders. Met with with Program Officers at grant making institutions to discuss potential projects. -
Program And Operations AssociateHester Street Collaborative Dec 2012 - Apr 2014New York, New York, Us* As a member of the Lower East Side Waterfront Alliance, collaborated with partners, community-based organizations, tenant leaders, the Community Board, city agencies and residents to build Pier 42, a temporary art park on the site of an abandoned waterfront pier in the Lower East Side. This included not only the construction of the park using a limited budget and materials, but also selecting artists, coordinating the interactions between artists and residents and creating several large programming events onsite between March and November. * Worked as the Community Engagement Manager on a Feasibility Study of the Queensway, a proposed linear park along an abandoned LIRR railine in Queens, NY. This was as part of team led by WXY and dlandstudio. Created and facilitated a multi-pronged engagement approach that included traditional evening workshops, interviews with key stakeholders and smaller discussion groups at school, libraries, community centers and churches utilizing a mobile tool that I co-designed and constructed with colleagues at HSC. * Worked with Community Based partners to identify potential new projects, draft scopes of work and con-fundraise to Private Foundations and Government Sources for project funding. * Drafted funding proposals, budgets, work scopes and reports for potential funders.
