Because singing is not his forte, Mr Shelnut’s two loves—poetry and music—never mixed until he found time in retirement (2018) to try his hand at composing. Retiring would also afford Mr Shelnut time to author 9-12 papers/ books, and open his own consultancy, Knowlton, LLC, for select engagements, whereby, he could still work with select clients, most notably, work done with software and analytics firm, GDS Link, LLC (Dallas/Madrid), which he also cofounded in 2005.After years on the board, Steve became president of Historic Lakeland, Inc. (2016), while working at LN and pursuing his second masters degree (Southeastern University) and remained active in his church. Never saying no, he ultimately hit the proverbial “wall,” with his life hanging in the balance, after a succession of severe health crises.Following a major heart attack (angioplasties in 2016; CABG bypass in 2017), he stepped back from active roles in his vocational and avocational pursuits, but continued financially supporting a number of causes and was noted for authoring and presenting peer-reviewed papers on a number of subjects pertaining to Christian orthodoxy and apologetics—for example—in defense against lies, heresies and cults. Mr. Shelnut also supports other philanthropic groups of higher import, from charities to educational ministries and foreign missions.Now retired, Shelnut scouts new opportunity, often applying visionary “product” lifecycle disciplines to new and aspirational endeavors.Shelnut pursues his love of the arts and his roles as benefactor, academic contributor and content editor, occasionally assisting others in product concepts and business plan development—i.e., for the Deen House Music Conservatory, new startups (including one launch in 4Q20), future/ upcoming businesses and breakthrough product concepts, inventions, patents, etc.He continues to support the evolution of blockchain and seamless multi-factor authentication technology that will “force obsolescence of the forgettable and personally intrusive system of usernames and passwords.Mr. Shelnut continues to work on his unfinished doctoral thesis, rebutting “multiverse theory,” expressly, Hawking’s “many worlds” interpretation of quantum mechanics. Other pursuits include membership in: Cloud Appreciation Society, AARP, Society for Creative Anachronism & Society for Commercial Archaeology.
