S2H-HAITI is committed to the philosophy that our role in Haiti is to provide a hand-up, not a hand-out, and ultimately contribute to the sustainability of the country by addressing the triple bottom line; the measure of economic, ecological, and social success. It is for this reason that we have located our manufacturing facility in Les Cayes, Haiti, and are helping to contribute to the local economy by training and hiring orphaned youth (working age) with advanced building skills to assist in the building of Haiti. S2H-HAITI is currently building and have already completed a number of building projects in Haiti, including schools, houses for families displaced by the earthquake, housing for orphaned children, and a variety of structures. We take great pride knowing that this work is done by our own trained crew (60+ men) and with our dynamic Haitian Partners. In 2012, we expect 100% of the structural components to be made in country. This one-of-a-kind building technology allows builders and developers the ability to build structures using a series of pre-manufactured light gauge steel framed panels, which can be easily erected on-site without the use of timber, cement block or reinforced concrete. Panels are then finished with SOS’s proprietary high-strength structural cementitious coatings. These coatings are applied to the exterior, interior walls, as well as, the floor and even the roof. Once the coatings cure they form a rigid, durable shell that is low-maintenance, highly resistant to natural disaster, fire and termites and is culturally accepted since it looks and feels like traditional “solid wall” construction.

FounderDeck On Steel Jan 2001 - Jan 2012Winchester, VirginiaIn 2001 I filed a Provisional Patent on technology based on a Light Gauge Steel Framing platform. Over time that technology was developed to include low-cost housing, emergency shelters and framing for residential DECKS! In 2005 I approached the TREX Corporation, which happened to be located in Winchester, VA were I've built a successful manufacturing business, to see if there was any interest in a Joint Venture. I knew with the banning of certain chemical preservatives (like Arsenic) costs of the new Copper based pressure treated wood could make LGS Framing competitive. Plus, with our new method of framing LGS and Decking attachments additional labor savings could be realized. After signing typical NDA's and some money to cover expenses of the study and report DECK ON STEEL started construction of 2 wood decks and 2 decks using our LGS Technology. The decks were built at their plant located on 3229 Shawnee Dr, Winchester, VA 22602. At that time I was back and forth to Sri Lanka developing a large-scale housing and shelter projects in partnerships with Habitat For Humanity-Sri Lanka in response to the devastating 2004 Tsunami, and continued to touch base with several TREX officials. I remember sitting in their Board room in 2008 when I was told (won't mention name) that there was no interest. In 2011, while our company was in Haiti rebuilding schools and homes for orphaned children after the 2010 earthquake I learned that TREX launched a Light Gauge "painted" Steel Deck System.
