I conduct research related to the hearing difficulties experienced by older adults. Hearing impairment is highly prevalent among older Americans, and about one third of the population over the age of 65 years exhibit age-related hearing loss. Most older adults living with hearing loss have difficulties in speech understanding, especially in noisy and complex acoustic environments. My research addresses this significant public health issue and aims (1) to understand the mechanisms underlying the speech-understanding difficulties and (2) to develop efficient and comprehensive diagnostic tools to customize hearing healthcare to individual patients.
