Provides leadership and instruction while serving as the director of the Center for Academic Success (CfAS). Develops, implements, and assesses programs related to tutoring and academic support. Collaborates with faculty, staff, and administrators across various units within the university.

Learning Center Responsibilities:Recruit, train, and supervise tutors in Reading and Learning for FIU’s Learning Centers at the Modesto Maidique and Biscayne Bay Campuses. Build and maintain tutor training program through the College Reading & Learning Association (CRLA). Conduct workshops and master classes for students throughout courses in Undergraduate Education and collaborating colleges including, but not limited to: College of Education, College of Business, and College of Nursing. Prepare and administer budgets for staffing needs, reading materials acquisition, review reading materials for adoption, maintain inventory, and gather supplemental resources for instruction. Professional Development Responsibilities:Provide instruction on the nature of the reading process in higher education to faculty and staff. Provide suggestions for syllabus development and content delivery. Guest lecture for professors in lower-division courses on college preparation topics, e.g. study skills, vocabulary development, reading comprehension. Develop and distribute resources for faculty when they encounter students with reading difficulties. Academic Improvement Plan (AIP) Responsibilities:Develop, implement, and maintain the Academic Improvement Plan for students on academic probation. Identify and confer with students who fall below 2.0 GPA. Collaborate with Academic Advising and Library Research on a holistic approach for intervention. Develop and implement curriculum for students to improve academic success. Train and supervise tutors to work with students on an AIP. Monitor and communicate students’ progress with Academic Advising throughout the semester. Quantify and analyze students’ improvement.
