I led the Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) design phase for Friargate Bridge, Coventry, a £9.8m new 104m wide bridge deck over the urban Ring Road as the contractor's Project Manager, co-located in the client Coventry City Council office with the design team from Atkins. This included - giving a passionate presentation as part of the work winning team, winning the tender despite not leading in previous financial and technical scoring,- budget updates to ensure viability, - outline programming and phasing, including aligning design deliverables with long procurement items in workshop settings, - using influencing skills and knowledge of CDM regulations to improve thrid party communication,- buildability reviews and developing design with consultant and main suppliers,- key stakeholder meetings with client as professional adviser, including evening drop in event for locals, and presentations to local school and chamber of commerce, - traffic and pedestrian management phasing, - statutory undertaker service liaison, - acting Bid Manager for Whitley Junction, a successful tender, - operating NEC3 Professional Service and Target Cost conditions of contract,- planning condition release agreement, - collaboratively drafting option design report for rail infrastructure for GRIP stage achievement, - teaching of Lean Construction techniques to improve team-working, communication and translate overall programme into daily tasks.

Working as Client's Representative (Assistant Resident Engineer) for property developer on various schemes, including Wixams Phase 1 (£20m infrastructure for 950 dwellings and A6 dual carriageway diversion), Broughton Gate (£2m, 2nd phase of 1500 dwelling development) and £2m Poole Bridge Link Road. - Assessing and approving for payment interim monthly accounts. - First assessment and then agreement or escalation of variations and claims. - Client liaison for all Statutory Authority service works, including installation, commissioning and financial control. - Obtaining successful handover of infrastructure by adopting authorities, under s106, s104, s38 and s278 agreements, including road layouts, drainage, sports fields, play areas and landscaping. This included fast learning of varied specifications e.g. MCHW, CESWI, Sewers for Adoption, and RIBA NBS Landscape. - NRSWA Services Major Diversions. I carried out independent research into the code of practice and guidance, giving an unexpected return of £300k.- Management of consultant by detailed review and programming of specification and drawings from "technical approval" to "for construction" stages. - Experience of asbestos in soil and explosive remediation.

Madrid Area, Spain

For Dragados (DRACE), Site Agent to build £1m new school in Toledo province, Spain. I managed sub-contracts in a foreign language with local suppliers, cost reporting and programme control for a steel frame building. I trained three interns in site management techniques. I gained experience in ceramic face brickwork repairs.

Labour, plant and material planning and control, design liaison and progress reporting for £1m Perimeter Road and Navigation System Works as part of Runway Displacement project. On arrival, I changed work face areas to improve progress on the critical path.

- June 2002 to November 2004, Terminal 5, Heathrow Airport, £90m Section Agent. I led the Taxiway and Stands concrete paving and service installation. I supervised nights and days teams. I liaised with airfield third parties such as Operations, Security and London Underground for RAMS acceptance and access. I led my team in new software implementation of Lean Construction techniques. I obtained UK acceptance of foreign supplier safe systems of work and certification. During a secondment to BAA as Airfield Maintenance Manager, Heathrow Airport, I managed change to planned preventative maintenance, not reactive. I adapted to a new organisation, as client representative. - November 2000 to June 2002, Section Engineer, A13 DBFO Thames Gateway, East London, £200m, in the joint venture RMG. I supervised structural concrete, bridge steelwork and piling operations. I improved communication in the team from implementing Daily Huddle. - March 2000 to November 2000, Section Engineer, Southern Runway Rehabilitation, Gatwick Airport, £18m. Short night possession work in live airport, asphalt and aircraft light installation. I improved co-ordination of a sub-contractor to give faster runway handback. - February 1999 to February 2000, Section Engineer, Portsmouth and Havant Wastewater Treatment Works £90m. I liaised with the existing plant operator, Southern Water, for network possessions for access.- August 1997 to February 1999, Design Engineer, seconded to WA Fairhurst, Bristol, and to Geocisa (Dragados), Madrid, timber, steel and concrete element design. Some for EU sponsored Concrete Durability Project. Working in foreign language (Spanish).- December 1995 to July 1997 and December 1997, Site Engineer, A419/417 DBFO Swindon to Gloucester, £112m, in RMG. Experience of JV working in first tranche DBFO project, with early completion.
