About Shereen Sater

I never wanted to be an entrepreneur; I wasn’t one of those kids with a lemonade stand. 🍋In fact, when my dad used to tell me, “The ultimate goal is to be your own boss,” starting at 15 years old, I found it both… untimely and highly unlikely. And then, I entered the working world.If my dad introduced me to “be your own boss,” my mom introduced me to, “you’ll never find someone that can outwork me."I loved working hard (I still do). I was consistently a top performer. Time and again, I was determined to prove myself in the “sink or swim” approach. And I did.I got promoted. I eventually switched companies for a more strategic role. I proved myself, and I got promoted to manager. I had minimal management training. Truth be told, it felt like I was set up for failure. I went from being a high-potential, top-performing individual contributor to constantly worrying about letting my team down. I became a shell of myself. Then I realized this was a common theme throughout my career: I was spiraling with anxiety when I could have been producing IF I had been set up for success earlier and intentionally (not by the happenstance of a good manager or finding a mentor willing to invest adequate time). By being privy to leadership conversations, I realized there was a fundamental disconnect in the workplace:Thorough and consistent talent development usually started at the VP level – nearly 10 years too late. But… most companies were plagued by their early talent turnover.Any trainings offered up at that point in my career were a “nice to have” when and if you have the time (which I didn’t). It wasn’t mandated or even “highly suggested.” Offering it seemed like more of a checkbox for the company – and thus, usually not a top consideration for most top performers who wanted to grow but knew training was viewed as an afterthought. So I pursued a Master’s Degree at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL in Learning and Organizational Change – which basically means driving business results through and with a focus on people. When I left, I set out to create the solutions I wished I had earlier in my career. ➡️ I started this company with 3 “solutions” to problems I had encountered in mind:- Workshops and Trainings that I didn't dread - Consistent Professional development for the “bottom of the pyramid” (aka those closest to the customer);- Culture analyses to bridge the gap between leadership and entry-level talent;

    Do your employees see a future with your company?We work with companies to...➡ empower leaders earlier in their careers through courses, ➡ build stronger teams and shared language through workshops,➡ intentionally and strategically plan for the future,➡ listen to all talent through culture assessments.- Leadership development workshops/ off-sites (that don't make your employees roll their eyes when they hear "training" or "development”)- Earlier talent development courses (for your entry-level & early/mid-level managers, customized to your company)- Culture analyses (that asses all levels of the organization so we're solving the right problem and tracking the appropriate metrics)We want your employees to feel like they made the best choice in picking your company.

    Every Tuesday, for 3 hours, I witness how Gen Z undergraduate students – the future of the workforce - view organizations. For ten weeks, we discuss what makes change efforts successful (and challenging) through various organizational change models. The courses cover what levers are involved in organizational change, including individual change, leadership, culture, identity, institutions, and environments.Courses: Practicum (Summer 2023); Studies in Organizational Change (Spring 2023, Fall 2023).

    How did I get here without a history in academia? In the fall of 2022, my former master’s capstone adviser asked me to come to speak to her undergraduate change management class about my career experience and my path to becoming an entrepreneur. While discussing the session, I filled her in on the work I had been doing with the earliest talent (specifically Gen Z) in the workplace – including what makes this generation so different and why/ how organizations would need to revisit their recruiting and retention strategies. With the course recently resuming to in-person after two years of remote learning, she, too, noticed a shift in their learning and behavior. To meet students’ evolving learning needs, we redesigned the curriculum. We refreshed some content - leveraging newer readings, podcast episodes, and videos to appeal to the various learning styles. The final project was redesigned to allow student groups to select an organization going through a significant change and analyze it through the various lenses and frameworks introduced throughout the quarter to solidify their understanding of the complexities of organizational change.

    If you've read this far, you're probably wondering what my current role has to do with this.It all started for me here - my first "real job."I joined a marketing company with a degree in Psychology and a minor in English. "Great fit," you're probably thinking.Wrong. So wrong. I knew things like "amygdala," "myelin sheath," and "hippocampus." I could tell you all the parts of the brain. And what motivates people to change. I had never heard of EBITDA, PnL, 10k, or Earnings Calls.And the first time I heard them, I looked around, and no one else looked confused (they were). So I didn't ask about them.I went on my merry way doing my day job with no context of how it fit into the larger picture. And no intentional professional development.My job-related anxiety started here. My first "real job." So what does that mean for my current company? 1. I understand what it's like to join a company, fresh out of college, and have no context about your role.2. I know what it's like to have professional development as a "nice-to-have when you have the time."3. I lived the problem I solve daily.I didn't know how to ask for help. I didn't understand business concepts. I didn't advocate for myself.So I left in search of a company that would give me transferrable skills.
