I am currently Head of Engineering and Research at Edraak, the online learning platform based in Amman, Jordan. I work with a team of engineers to meet the online learning demands of online learners and institutions seeking online/blended learning in the region. I also lead the development of educational data features to advance educational research using Edraak's data.Priori to that, I studied for my PhD a doctoral student in Stanford University, focusing on applying machine learning to online learning technology, namely the engineering of more engaging learning experiences in massive open online courses (MOOCs). During my doctoral study, I participated in three platform development teams: ClassX (a video streaming system with features geared towards educational applications), CourseWare (which offered advanced assessment and collaboration features), and Class2Go (a Stanford-developed platform for MOOCs).Between 2000 and 2008, I studied electrical engineering in Alexandria University, Egypt, and earned my B.Sc degree with honors and first rank on my class. Afterwards, I worked as a teaching assistant in Alexandria University for 4 years while I completed my M.Sc. degree. During that time, I have participated in mentoring many undergraduate research projects.I love nature, and seek trips to natural landscapes. Anything is fun when done with my lovely wife, son, and daughter. My obsession after a productive day of work is to take them anywhere interesting, eat dinner, then just walk and talk.
