I have been a leader at Alberta One-Call (now operating as Utility Safety Partners) since 2005, and apply lessons learned through 20+ years in Damage Prevention to my current role as Operations Director. I am a champion of the Click Before You Dig damage prevention process and promote safety success through partnership, communication, and cooperation among diverse stakeholders. My least favourite phrase is "That's the way we have always done it". With today's creative thinkers and technological advances, we should always be rethinking how we do things. There is always a way to improve. As Chair of the Canadian One Call Centres Committee and a board member of the Canadian Common Ground Alliance, I have the privilege of providing a voice for utility notification services on a national level. I have worked towards One Call legislation (See my testimony to the Canadian Senate below), improved One Call services for every province and territory, and improved access to One Call services through the implementation of cutting-edge technologies. I am currently the Vice-Chair of the technical advisory committee for CSA Z247, and contributed to the development of the first national standard devoted to utility damage prevention. I was extremely gratified to project manage the Business Rules Alignment Group (BRAG) into creating the first multi-jurisdictional aligned business rules between one call service providers in North America.I have over 30 years of experience in building strong customer, vendor, and employee relationships; and have a passion for strategic planning, development of quality work environments, and the pursuit of technical excellence. I only succeed when leveraging the talent of my incredible colleagues. Communicating a clear vision of common goals, treating people with respect, and operating with transparency and integrity are the most effective ways to inspire teams to work together to achieve excellence.“Leadership is not about organizational charts, corporate structures, or the latest management theory or technology... Leadership is about people.” - General Rick Hillier
