Radiology Aide To Radiography Chief TechAultman Hospital May 1992 - Jun 1995Canton, Ohio, United StatesThis is where it all began! Aultman Hospital. I began my career 20 years ago in their School of Radiology after returning from serving in Desert Storm. I had made a promise to go back to college in a field that would allow me to help others. This promise was made in the middle of the desert at three o'clock in the morning, while I stood with rifle locked and loaded in the middle of a sleeping camp. It was my birthday. The sky was so bright, it seemed I could almost reach up and touch them! So bright, that I could flip my wrist up and see both hands of my analog watch to see the time. I was on night patrol. Keeping everyone safe, paroling the perimeter while they slept, nodding at my partner when we passed each other - all clear. Lord, please send me and all of us home safe. Oh, I so miss my two-and-a-half-year-old daughter.Flash forward to x-ray school. I worked valet at night while attending school 40 hours per week until I was able to move up to radiology aide. As an Aide, I hung films, took patients, films, reports up and down from x-ray to ER or the floors, among many other needed tasks. After graduation, I worked PRN for three separate local hospitals to try to make full-time pay and loved it all! I loved every minute of healthcare work, as I moved up, added specializations, added knowledge; accreditation, compliance, teaching, mentoring, leading, all of it! Recruited to become the founding dean for the College of Health Sciences made so much sense! The healthcare programs that we develop today has a critical impact on the healthcare that we deliver tomorrow – it’s a win-win!
