Coordinate the Lane County Driver Education Initiative grant. Collaborate with school districts, private driving schools, and government agencies to enhance the number of certified driver education instructors in Lane County to further the goals of the initiative. Initiative goals include increasing the number of driver education instructors in the county, increasing the number of teen driver classes at the county’s rural high schools, and decreasing the financial burden to families by seeking out funding for a scholarship fund.First six months:• Created project charter and implementation plan.• Began establishing relationships with Western Oregon University driver education instructor certification staff, Lane Country Public Works transportation safety staff, Safe Lane Coalition partners, rural school district staff, and my program manager from Oregon Department of Transportation.• Established procedures for implementation of county-wide driver education initiative.• Recruited driver education instructors.• Coordinated a driver education instructor training course at Lane ESD.• Researched funding opportunities for teen scholarship fund.Current and ongoing efforts:• Develop promotional materials for students and parents to encourage enrollment in an ODOT approved driver education program.• Develop promotional materials for recruiting driver education instructors.• Coordinate allocation of driver education tuition support funds.• Coordinate with Western Oregon University for driver education instructor trainings.• Collect and analyze data for project improvement and evaluation.• Maintain accurate and up-to-date knowledge of ODOT driver education program requirements.• Participate in regional, state, community and local meetings to disseminate information, network with resource providers, and advocate for resources to effectively meet the needs of eligible youth.
