About Sherri Williams
I conduct research on how people of color, particularly black women, are represented in the media and how people of color use social media. I am particularly interested in studying how black people's use of social media is changing social television and social justice. I teach journalism classes and courses on media representation including race, gender and media, the rhetoric of social activism and intersectional multimedia storytelling. I was a newspaper reporter for 10 years and I continue to work as a freelancer. My work appeared in media outlets including NBC BLK, Essence, Ebony, Heart & Soul, Upscale, The Source and The Quill magazines. I write about race/demographics, women's and gender issues, health and health disparities and more. Specialties: Journalism, media and diversity research/scholarship, media studies.
