I have a bachelors degree in healthcare administration and 18yrs of experience in the health care industry. My introduction into healthcare was as a unit secretary on a pediatric and orthopedic unit in a hospital. There I discovered how much I enjoyed helping patients and there families navigate through the complexities of healthcare from the administrative side. I also became familiar with healthcare terminology, insurance, finances, coding, chart management, and how different entities within the hospital worked together in sync to heal and create the overall patient experience. I realized that healthcare was the industry that I wanted to stay and grow in. I moved on to becoming a Senior Patient Access Representative where I learned more about patient registration, insurance verification and billing, and front office operations. I then moved on to becoming a Liver Transplant Scheduling Coordinator where I manipulated complex patient schedules and assisted a nurse coordinator in monitoring patients liver MELD scores to maximize the potential for a liver transplant. During that time I completed my bachelors degree, and with that degree I landed a job working for a Medicaid health plan as a Service Coordinator. This was an extremely complex role that required critical thinking skills, an in-depth knowledge of health administration, patience, and compassion. In that role I assisted members with obtaining pre certifications for services they needed, as well as providing case management assistance to determine what services they needed and what could be done to provide those services. My performance in that position was superior. I constantly maintained the highest metric numbers on the team per quarter which included quality audit scores, efficiency scores, and adherence. I was also asked to fill in for the team leads when they were not available, and because of my performance I was one of 4 service coordinators in the state of Texas offered a work from home position.
