I am often asked why Noma and I founded Lifeline Companion Services and the answer has always been a simple one. We walked the walk and learned so much during the periods that we cared for our parents, we wanted to share our journey in a positive way . Due to spending years frustrated at the medical community that did not understand the differences in treating their elderly patients from their 40 year old patients. The endless doctor visits with generally the same outcome and few resources available to help us address the signs of dementia and mood changes or age-related arthritis, stenosis, depression and chronic pain was indeed the catalyst for change that needed to happen. From multiple hospitalizations each year for the next few decades, inferior skilled nursing facilities following falls, injuries and surgeries, multiple moves from homes with too much clutter to assisted living communities that were unable to truly assist at the level they needed assistance, and finally to end of life decisions, we were inspired and knew we could offer options for families that made this journey positive rather than always searching for help.In 2005, we aligned with The Seniors Choice, national home care network. Their program to educate newly formed home care agency owners on the organization, development and operations of a non-medical home care agency was intense. We focused on policies and procedures, interviewing, training, recruiting, types of services and protocol, communication, advocacy, resources, elder law and day-to-day operational guidelines. We attended conferences and workshops on ethical business practices, hiring practices, safety for clients and employees, legal requirements and best practices for caring for clients with dementia , Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.Our education began in 2005 and continues as we address the challenges facing our senior population today. We have already served over 450 clients and are encouraged and excited to expand in-house and outreach services for our clients and the families who love them. As we look ahead to celebrating our 16th year in home care, we couldn't be prouder of our journey and the gratitude received from the families we have served and our employees who have served them. Our seniors deserve to be seen, heard and respected, and at Lifeline, they are.
