Several thousands of my features, interviews & columns have been published in local, national and international magazines, newspapers websites and newsletters. My work has been published in Popular Science, Scientific American, Discover, Newsweek, Health, the Atlanta Journal and Constitution, Mamm, Yoga Journal, Optometry, Atlanta, Arthritis Today,UCLA’s "Healthy Years" newsletter, Mount Sinai School of Medicine’s "Focus on Health Aging" newsletter, the Cleveland Clinic’s "Men’s Health Advisor" newsletter and others. I wrote for the late and lamented OMNI magazine for over16 years. I am the former Director of Public Relations for the Emory Heart Center. I produced all written communications for the cardiology department including brochures, posters, press releases, patient information materials and newsletters for physicians and lay people. I pitched stories to media and worked with the marketing department on planning and publicizing special events and marketing campaigns. My additional writing experience includes working, on a project basis, as a research producer, for the television series "Unsolved Mysteries", I wrote and edition of the CDC Foundation's annual report & produced a book length project for former President Jimmy Carter, The Democratization of Latin America & the Caribbean, too.My professional accolades include a Pulitzer Center funded project - a deeply researched feature article about the connections between air pollution and potential neurological diseases. I also received a NEA grant in arts criticism & the Harrison Rogers Journalism Award for excellence in medical feature writing. I wrote the Emory Healthcare marketing brochure “Heart and Soul” which took first place in the healthcare system brochure designation of the 18th Annual Healthcare Advertising Awards in 2001, beating out 3,200 other entries. In 2005, a story I wrote about children and diabetes for Atlanta Parent magazine was awarded the top feature gold award by the Parenting Publications of America Association.Specialties: science/medical writing, humor, fiction, non-fiction.
