About Sherryl Saunders

I firmly believe that a foundational purpose for education is to empower teachers, and learners of all ages, to shape and enrich a changing world. Learners must be provided with opportunities to come to know the world and must have opportunities to acquire the means for participating and negotiating in the world in meaningful ways. Teachers are essential to learners' experiences. Educational leaders need to be willing models of exemplary practice; to support and encourage exemplary practice in others. Throughout my professional life, I have endeavoured to be such a leader. My career goal is to make a contribution to the professional lives of teachers and to make a positive contribution to enhancing the quality of their and their learners’ educational experiences. I have endeavoured to achieve this goal by supporting teachers to be reflective practitioners; to value the unique contribution of each person and for teachers to see themselves as lifelong learners. The world is not as it was and it will not stay the same for long. I believe those who are able to participate and negotiate in a modern and interdependent world need to be engaged in learning that is reflective of this changing context. Consequently, teachers must value and build on the strengths of the past, help learners envision possible futures and build personal and community capacity to create a desirable future.
