They afforded me the opportunity to develop skills in planning collaboratively and implementing the strategic direction in the Languages learning area in particular, as well as the areas of English as a second language (ESL), International Education, Literacy and English. The range of duties I undertook in the roles were diverse – from developing professional learning programs that model best practice, to providing leadership in the systemic building of sustainable programs in the area, to functional duties such as preparing budgets, monitoring of expenditure and assisting in the staffing of programs. In relation to ESL, International Education, Literacy and English, the SEO role was an opportunity for me to experience and develop skills in leadership and management of a diverse portfolio.
