Writer, Editor, Educator, Manager, Scientist, Designer, Photographer, Videographer - I combine all of these in much of what I do. I've had four books published, created and designed newsletters for nonprofit organizations and taught journalism at Northwestern University. I think of writing as a way to give readers information that will improve their lives.I've served as a managing editor for Pioneer Press and Shaw Media, where I led interns, columnists and reporters to produce weekly 30- to 100-page magazine-style publications. At Shaw Media, I led the team to win four first-place newspaper awards including best design -- more than any in the publication's history. At Pioneer Press, I was named Suburban Journalist of the Year by a national newspaper organization.I'm also a contributing editor and writer for a national Reader's Digest publication with more than 1 million readers and write and take photographs for other national magazines. In addition, I am a contributing writer for Natural Awakenings Magazine, which focuses on healthy living, the environment and nature.I have been guest speaker for a variety of organizations including the Chicago Botanic Garden and The Field Museum. I routinely have articles published in the upfront news section of the Chicago Tribune and the Lake County News-Sun. Stories focus on news, social issues, the environment and health.
