During the economic downturn her IT Consultant role was made redundant and as a result she sought out to achieve her dream of owning her own cupcake business and left the IT industry to do so. Starting modestly in September 2009, she started her online cupcake business and baked at home with little capital. The business started to flourish as name of “Cupcake Central” spread through word of mouth and orders starting flowing through.Over the last 8 years, Cupcake Central has grown to 5 stores around Melbourne. Sheryl has also won the Entrepreneur of the Year 2013 award by the Australian Startup Awards. She was also a finalist for the Telstra Business Women's Award, entrepreneur category in 2016.Since December 2015, Sheryl has taken onboard the role as CEO of the League of Extraordinary Women, an organisation she co-founded in 2011. The League exists to connect and inspire women to bring out their extraordinary. With an online community of 150,000 women - The League provides the power of connections in the form of events, workshops and conferences that fosters real conversations. Sheryl has been a member of the esteemed global Entrepreneurs' Organization since 2015 and is on the Board and serving as Chapter President of EO Melbourne for 2020/21In 2021, Sheryl embarked on her biggest life challenge yet - becoming a mother to Mila. Amongst motherhood in 2022, she launched airhomey with her partner and currently has 10+ short term rental properties.
