Based on my previous academic and clinical experience, I was required to conduct regular assessments and monitor the progress of all the patients living within the facility. I was also required to devise intervention plans and management strategies based on each patient’s requirements, which were then implemented within their daily routines. I was able to develop my intellectual companionship for patients with dementia, and found that both my own patience and empathy were developed whilst in this position.
The only institute in India dedicated to neuroscience research and teaching. Funded by the Government of India.As a neuropsychology intern I was involved in a collaborative project with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences that sought to identify early markers of Alzheimer’s Disease by quantifying levels of Glutathione in the brain. My role in addition to research, involved screening of clinical populations using neuropsychological techniques.

Posting in the neurosciences department involved constant close interactions with physicians, psychiatrists, neurologists and neurosurgeons. As a neuropsychology intern, I was in charge of taking detailed case histories, conducting assessments and planning interventions for all of the patients – of which I was required to have a high attention to detail at all times. I was responsible for administration and interpretation of a range of neuropsychological tests, as well a counselling patients and neuropsychological rehabilitation techniques.

My one-month internship involved being posted in several departments including the day care facility, as well as the in and outpatient department.
