During my tenure, I advocated on behalf of low-income and formerly homeless residents in Single Room Occupancy (SRO) hotels for better living, sanitary, and habitable conditions. Working with property management, landlords, and San Francisco’s Department of Building Inspection directly, I played a critical role in remedying outstanding repairs and habitability issues for tenants living in high-poverty and under-resourced neighborhoods. Utilizing my knowledge of San Francisco’s Local Operating Subsidy Program and landlord-tenant law, I fought hard to keep some of San Francisco’s most at-risk tenants housed by drafting lease agreements, crafting Repayment Agreements, and submitting Rental Assistance applications. On a few occasions, and for those who had already received a Summons (form SUM-130) and Complaint (form UD-100), I assisted and partnered with San Francisco’s Eviction Defense Collaborative (EDC) to ensure that my client’s written Answer was filed within the five-day deadline and to provide EDC Right to Counsel Coordinators and Litigation Attorneys with all necessary documentation.

As Editor-in-Chief for a community socio-political publication, InPrint Magazine, I oversaw teams of ten to twelve writers and produced three annual issues: Solidarity, Revival, and Disillusionment. Delivering a diverse array of in-depth and informative content, I found it to be our responsibility as creatives and writers to amplify the lived experiences that are misrepresented or excluded from conventional narratives. Always developing new and innovative ways to attract readers, I oversaw the planning and conception for both written and visual contents that were to be featured in print and online.

As a writer and Senior Editor for Davis’ first and only feminist publication, REVIVAL Zine, I conducted thorough research surrounding selected article topics and verified accompanying sources. To this end, I learned to mobilize awareness and address some of the most pressing issues of our lived realities through op-ed pieces. Voicing my opinion on draconian immigration policies, mythologies of racialized criminology, unbridled capitalism, I began to find my voice and hone the complicated art of communication.
