Sarah is a partner in BDO LLP, based in London. She has over 25 years’ professional experience gained across a range of sectors including sport, government, international business, real estate, insurance and not-for-profit. She has worked with organisations ranging in size from PLC’s to SMEs and owner managed businesses.Sarah specialises in governance, risk and assurance advisory work and has built two businesses offering these services, once from a start up position. She is an advocate of pioneering new services and new markets, pushing boundaries of service delivery in response to ever changing and increasing client demands and expectations. She is a Chartered Accountant with strong integrity, able to communicate in a confident, straightforward manner. She has excellent interpersonal skills and is used to engaging with clients at board and audit committee level, to proactively help clients define and embed sustainable governance, control and risk cultures. Sarah has specialist expertise of governance in the sport sector developed over 15 years. She has a thorough understanding of the complexity of the governance challenges facing the board and senior management of sports organisations and the benefits of employing good governance to meet stakeholder expectations including those of public funders.Sarah has undertaken a number of governance consultancy projects for clients including a review of conflict of interest in one organisation which was published and subsequently considered as part of the work of the 10th Nolan Committee. Typical consultancy work covers the role and structure of the board, board composition, appointment processes, skills, diversity, managing conflicts of interest and facilitating board evaluations.
