I pinched myself. Rewind to when i was a boy and teenager. I remember walking into a Porsche showroom and sitting in a 928. I still remember it today. The smell of the leather, the way the steering wheel felt in my hands, the look of the dials and controls - everything. It transported me. I was in love. I had the 911 slantnose poster on my wall. I would sketch a 911 turbo on just about any blank sheet of paper I could find. That's just the way Porsche is to all of us who have been smitten with the passion that is Porsche. To me, Porsche is just a higher level of performance and quality. It is to Germany what Ferrari is to Italy - an iconic sports car with the highest pedigree. I said yes and here i am! I couldn't be more thrilled!!

When I was asked by Miller Motorcars to help open up a new Showroom in Westport, I was excited. I thought, 'here is a unique opportunity to expand my clientele base!' It was thrilling to watch our business grow from the moment we turned on our computers. We have even out-paced our older sister store in Greenwich during some of the months despite being brand new! Of course starting brand new comes with many challenges which has only added to my experience and education.

I was content working at Nordstrom as a Manager when a job opportunity fell in my lap. I really wasn't looking at the time but the ad did say "no previous car sales required". I was intrigued and applied. I thought to myself, "Wow! How awesome it would be to work here with all these gorgeous works of art and brands that I have admired since childhood!" I actually had little hope of getting such a job. But after several interviews, I was exactly what they were looking for. Like Nordstrom, Miller Motorcars is like a family run business with a great reputation and extremely high standards and values. I fit right in. There was a lot that I needed to learn - starting from scratch was almost overwhelming. Learning things quickly and accurately was the real key to success for me. Being passionate about the cars was no problem at all. Knowing the product intimately, the history, the design elements and aspects, as well as the specifications is my forte you could say and I love sharing my knowledge with customers and fellow sales associates.

I was perfectly happy as an Assistant Sales Manager. My colleague and I were consistently among the top 5 highest paid employees at Nordstrom during my time in this position. It was perfect being able to help my loyal personal customers while learning how to run a department and a business. So, I was a little hesitant when I was asked to manage my own department - Really running my own business. There was a lot more to learn than I thought. What I have learned has served me very well to become successful as both a Manager and in the next chapter of my professional sales career.

Even when I was in sales, I was always assisting the manager and the department taking on added responsibility. It was natural to feel that even though I was an employee of Nordstrom, it was my business, my merchandise and my customers that kept coming back to me. So it seemed all too clear that becoming an Assistant Sales Manager was basically what I was doing from the get go. Of course, being an Assistant Manager included much more. I was ordering merchandise, creating work schedules, training, interviewing, hiring, and much more. But I was still able to care for my personal customers and that was the most important thing to me.

For 8 years I had been doing volunteer work. That means working full time but making no money. But I didn't need to because all of my needs were being taken care of. However, after my eight years it was time to move on and I needed a job that paid the bills. I asked around and two of my very dear friends suggested that I come work for the company they work for, Nordstrom. I know Nordstrom. I grew up in Seattle and I shopped at Nordstrom - it was my favorite store. I even had a chance to intern there while I was in high school. I already had a great deal of respect for the company and their reputation so I decided, "why not?" My first year I exceeded the Company sales target goal and earned the reward of 'Pacesetter'. In that same year I achieved the highest reward that Nordstrom offers - The 'Customer Service ALL-STAR' award for providing exceptional customer service. Going above and beyond to care for customer needs is what I do and it has solidified relationships that I continue to enjoy even now at Miller Motorcars / Maserati of Westport!
