iSelect is company best known for comparing private health funds. It opted recently to join the mortgage broking market. I was one of a group of trainees who joined the organisation and were made “redundant” shortly after when the company decided to cut down on their mortgage vertical and to invest more in other verticals such as “health” that was more profitable.Working with iSelect opened me up to the world of mortgage brokering. I enjoyed an intense training period that taught me the art of being a broker and how to engage customers emotionally to get the sale across. • Learned the “iSell methodology” that taught me how to travel the full journey with the customer from initial contact until settlement.• Demonstrated an understanding of how work with a range of clients, whether it be immediate or after a set time period, and how to retain them.• Assisted many customers on home loans.• Performed well as marked on preliminary indicators.

Loan Market is a rapidly growing mortgagee company which currently has a network of over 1,000 brokers internationally.While undertaking my Masters in Applied Finance, I volunteered to assist a contact in his mortgage broking business so that I could gain some experience.• Learned the ropes of the role of a Mortgage Broker and various tricks of the trade. These included different platforms, the art of finalising a deal and how to choose the correct financial product to meet the client’s needs.
