Shingo Umehara is a senior at Wesleyan University, majoring in philosophy. His interest lies in education, art and words. Over the last few years, he has committed to providing support for Japanese high school students who wish to study in America. Extending this passion, he'll provide liberal arts seminars this summer, for teachers and education committee workers of Japan. Last year, he took a gap-year and stayed in Tokyo. Living in a museum filled neighborhood, he enjoyed weekly visits to galleries and exhibitions. For the majority of his time there, he worked for a small publisher and has translated, edited, typesetted, and designed covers for multiple books. He is passionate about demystifying how we interact with words, facts and understandings on a social level. As a senior project, he is working on how we should hear about, think about, and remember disasters.
